I heard about Dan Gentile and his training program through my brother. I had my dig Maximus for three years … and he recently had been having poor behavior. He was not listening to me when I said ā€œnoā€ and pulled on walks. During his time, Maximus learned to sit, stay, heel, lay down, come…’land so much more. He listens to me and we have an even stronger and loving bond. I so appreciate the time the trainers gave me making sure I am continuing with the proper training at home. Being a teacher, I totally understand the need of practice and now I have ā€œhomeworkā€. My Maximus is such a love bug and I couldn’t thank Dan and his team enough! Turns out … you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!

I would leave NO STARS for this place, my young German Shepherd almost lost her digits on her paws because of this cruel person, the head of the animal hospital said she was dragged and it was obvious to him due to her injuries. Stay away!

I would just like to leave my positive review on Dan Gentile. I just came across someone saying negative things. I brought my 1st dog to Dan 24yrs ago. She was a yellow lab we were getting married at the time and going on our honeymoon we researched trainers our Vet recommended this facility. Our dog was a loving pup but she was a lab and definitely needed training. Dan was excellent went throughly over everything. I remember that day my husband had picked up Casey as I was working and he called me to say don’t be upset when you see Casey I thought Why?? Because she was a totally different dog so you kind of feel bad but let me tell you it was the best money we’ve ever spent the dog was so well behaved and one of the Best behaved dog we’ve ever had. We also had another dog we sent years later same experience. I have been recommending him for the last 24yrs!! So I would just like to say someone is not in business for this many years because they ā€œabuse ā€œ dogs. And who else gives you a lifetime commitment that you can bring the dog back at any time for a refresher. Thanks again just wanted to add my opinion

For 20 years we've been sending our dogs to Dan and his trainers. We just got our latest family member back after a 2 week session and we couldn't be more satisfied. Thanks once again, we now have a well behaved 8 month old pup. / Toni On New York says THANK YOU!

Everyone at the training center is knowledgeable, friendly, professional, clearly loves dogs & willing to go above & beyond what they advertise. When we dropped off our 7 month old, stubborn, female Bernadoodle (Izzy) with behavior/dominance issues (biting, jumping, barking, not coming when called) we weren't sure what to expect. With our fingers crossed we went to the pickup & were extremely happy to find an entirely different dog. Izzy came home 90% trained & the other 10% is on us to reinforce what she learned at the training center. We couldn't be happier with the outcome of the training & would highly recommend Dan Gentile & his staff to anyone looking for an excellent training experience. Thank you all so much!

I don’t always write reviews but since I relied so heavily on them when choosing a trainer for my dog, I thought I should. My husband and I could not be any happier with the progress our baby Rocco made during his two weeks here. The main issues we had with our 80 lb pit lab mix was him pulling on walks when he saw any other animal as well as play biting with my husband constantly. Rocco came home as a new dog !! He stays at my side during walks and basically ignores all animals we pass. Mallory and the other girls were so kind and treated our boy as if he was their own. I called daily to check in on him and they never once made me feel like I was bothering them. Their excitement to talk about Rocco and share his progress actually made my day most days that he was gone ! While I warn that the drop off will be rough, I promise you that it is worth it !! I really cannot say enough about how happy we are that we did this and chose Dan Gentile’s training program. And on a personal note, they are extremely supportive to law enforcement and military ! We were pleasantly surprised about that at drop off being that husband is a police officer.

If there was a way that I could give 0 stars I would believe me when I say this it should not be taken lightly. DO NOT SEND YOUR DOG HERE. Dan Gentile is abusive to dogs in more ways than one. We sent our 5 month old mountain cur there for 2 weeks and did not even recognize his personality when he came back. He’s scared all the time and we have to be cautious when he’s around new people. We cannot even put him in the cage without him getting nervous and defensive. I know that while our dog has been there he has been kicked, shocked repeatedly, kept in the cage for way over the necessary amount of time.. long enough for him to use it as his bathroom. I wish there was a way we could report this place but unfortunately you don’t even need a license to train dogs. Dan Gentile needs to be shut down.

Dan and his team did an absolutely wonderful job with our hyper dalmatian mutt. I would not hesitate to recommend their services to anyone else, or to bring another dog of ours to them for more training.

My husband and I chose this facility to board and train our sweet and rambunctious six month old rescue puppy, Ruby. It was hard to keep her attention, have her not jump, and be consistent with commands. When we picked her up after two weeks and Mallory walked us through Ruby’s training, we were in awe. It is like night and day—her ability to heel, sit, stay, come….we couldn’t be more satisfied! With the arrival of our first baby in a few months, we are confident Ruby’s new manners will make her the best big sister.

After spending over $2000 and having my dog there for two weeks. She came home more scared and with injuries on her. They use the prong collar which they will charge you 70.00 for on top of other things they will sell at double their cost. Attached are the photos of the injuries which we pointed out to them but will not do anything about. I now have someone else coming to my house to work with her.

I’m just very disappointed that I spent almost 2 grand and my dog is reactive due to being scared and we have some aggressive behavioral issues because of that. He is very skittish, lacks confident, and so much more. They should have called me and been honest and be like look this training isn’t for your dog. I’m not a dog trainer and I clearly see my dog is reactive in certain situations especially with meeting new people, etc, so if i saw it they defiantly saw it too.

Absolutely do not bring your dog here. Read all the negative reviews they are true. I have NO idea how this place has not been shut down. It’s a disgrace and disgusting the way they ā€œtrainā€ dogs in such a cruel way. Disgusting. Adding onto this in response to Dan gentiles comment — no, certainly not a mistake. I have family members who DID indeed use your services and I’ve spoken to numerous people about your services and have read tons of negative reviews. These poor dogs. You should be ashamed.

Horrible! They hired my fiancĆ© for a job training dogs. They even asked him to leave his current job earlier than the 2 weeks. To which, he gave a week notice to his job. Come to find out, two days after he was supposed to start, that the person wasn’t leaving and he didn’t have a job!!!! That is an awful thing to do to a person. I would never bring our dogs here. Clearly their management is atrocious. Edit: You are LYING! I even heard you on speaker phone discussing giving him the schedule. Then he got the run around for a few more days. He NEVER said that it was a lot of work for one person. He would have at least said that to me, but never to you. We have since heard horrible things about the place, so it appears we lucked out. Have the day you deserve!

Our dog finished up with the 2 week board and train and we are very happy with the training. We had a little problem with our dog about 6 weeks later as we found that he wasn’t listening to us the way he should. We called Dan and he said to bring him back in for a little refresher and we worked with Mallory. She showed us where we need to make the corrections and we are very happy with the program. We love that if we ever have a problem in the future, we can bring our Sampson back any time.

We brought in our 14 month English Bulldog on July 10, 2023 for a two week boarding/training to The Dog training facility Center The Dan Gentile. WHAT A MISTAKE to say the least extremely dissatisfied. The staff at the time of boarding didn’t make our dog transition stress free to ease him into a new temporary environment, for the opposite they immediately took him, weight him and drag him outside to his cage without us seeing him for a second not even for a goodbye. Our dog was terrified and confused. Everything was done in such a hurry. BTW No pictures were allowed in the cage facility. He was trained with the prong collar that pulls his neck up and down to make him listen to commands although (not physical damage to his neck, emotionally he’s destroyed. We gave this Dog facility Center a misbehave toddler and In return we got another dog-an angry, aggressive, nervous and overall a sad and stressed out dog. It’s pretty clear using negative reinforcement training with a prong collar doesn’t work with all dogs/breeds specially English bulldogs this method it’s all school and should be updated accordingly. After all this we are required to hire a professional behaviorist to reverse all damage done if not some damage done by this Dog facility Center. He forgot all human social skills. He can’t be touched not even to clean near he’s face or neck, he can’t be pet, neither take a bath (all these never before you) like I said another dog.-We taught this place was going to give us a peace of mind unfortunately, it didn’t. Our dog came home skinner, and with scabs all over he’s genitals which he needed to see his veterinary. We are very unhappy, unfulfilled and displeased with the results. OVERALL NOT RECOMMENDED.

This facility mistreats dogs. My friend had a terrible experience where they didn't feed her dog the specific food she brought, her dog came home lethargic, broken out in hives, swollen face, and vomiting. The owner refuses to answer any phone calls. Please - if you're considering leaving your dog here for an extended period of time - think again!!

Our Lil Ben is a very headstrong Parsons Russell terrier. Diminutive? maybe. Strong and controlling? Definitely. The team at DG took Ben and helped mold him into a much more well behaved member of the family. Easier to walk him. Easier to LIVE with him. When we picked him up at DG two weeks after dropping him off there, he was as happy as before. But he was also more manageable. He still has a way to go on certain behaviors, not touched on in his lessons.

Dan Gentile and Staff are like magic. My dog went to school when he was 1.5 and again at 2.5. Ranger can do every single command, off leash- things, if you knew my dog Ranger, would never think possible. Everything is positive, Ranger loves the entire staff, he gets excited to ā€˜go to work’. There’s a reason Dan is so we’ll known. Ask the Staff for my contact information if you want first hand info- I’d be more than happy to connect.

I was a manager at a pet store some years back, when this woman came in with her beautiful, yet seemingly stressed out, German Shepherd. She was upset that the dog was panting the way she was and acting strangely. Not the way you intend to pick up your animal from a training boarding facility. There was such a horrible odor coming from her. I noticed upon looking at her neck and this ā€œprong collarā€ Dan told her they use for training, was embedded in her neck. He told the woman he removed two links from it to secure it around her neck more firmly for training purposes. This poor thing was in such distress because the prongs were IN HER NECK. It was rotting her flesh. I had her call the vet on an emergency and rush her in right away. This poor woman had no idea of the extent of the damage done by having this collar shortened and tightened on her baby. She couldn’t figure out where the stench was coming from. Thank goodness she got her dog when she did it her fate would’ve been much worse. I have heard other stores from people who have brought their animals here to train with unsatisfactory results. I recall reading an article about Dan in the paper as well and was left with such a disgusted feeling for any animal left in his care. I would never EVER bring my animal here. Not even a pet rock! Using a prong collar to the point of wounding an animal is NOT a way to train. Stand clear of this place!! Completely broke my heart!!

For now 1 star. Reached out about having my pup trained. It has been three weeks and I have not heard anything back. Not even an acknowledgement of receiving our email. If that's is any indication of their services.... I would not want to leave the care in the hands of these people. Update. We did finally get in contact. Unfortunately we had already made other arrangements. We understand places are busy and short staffed. It was still nice to get a response. Thank you.

Never even boarded my dog here i was going to but just after knowing people who have some good but most mainly bad. Without this info im all for most type training i believe prong collars could be used as an helpful aid in some situations but if you were to put my dog on a prong collar and not ask me before hand. Tell me when i pick her up. That im not ok with at all good thing i saw everyone saying they had no idea you used them until the end and than reading so many horror stories im so disappointed thay animals are being treated like this and that my mom and dad used to be friends with this guy dan ... i apparently met him when i was younger... i was looking to board my crazy silly wild 8month old pit while i went to florida in october. Hence how i got here. I cant even think of even risking the possibility of something bad happening to my MJ... too many similar bad reviews all so similar they must actual have some truth. Im sure some people get good experience but too much to risk and id ask no one if the love their pet leave them with someone who has reviews like this so much abuse so sad to read. Grew up in howell my whole life this was first boarding place i thought of since my parents were pretty close to dan years ago prob like 20. And i know for a fact my dad met him threw bars and drugs so that may explain all the years of abuse on these animals. Dont know much of him now people may change but it is info that may be helpful especially if still using. Just so upset that i thought of leaving my baby here i had to write something so no one makes this mistake... hopefully this message gets to more people... maybe tiktok or insta needs a viral video if anyone has pics or vidios of the abuse. Or this and all horrid comments in a video . We can all work to put something together to end this abuse that there is no doubt happening

I thought now would be a good time to write an honest review since having the great experience we had elsewhere to compare it too. Back in 2020, we sent our rescue dog to training at Dan gentile training facility. We voiced over and over that our dog was dog reactive. Well long story short, we pick him up from the facility and literally on his way out to the car the trainer is having a hard time controlling our dog because he is reacting to the owners dogs. We were told the owners dogs were ā€œmeant to be reactiveā€ because they are dogs used for protection. We gave them the benefit of the doubt. After a few weeks noticing our dog acting exactly the same as when we dropped him off, we were able to bring him back in to be shown some training techniques to implement. The trainer was extremely rude and condescending, she brought our dog into the kennel with the prong collar and showed us that he can be calm around other dogs by giving the most forceful tug to his prong collar to the point he yelped. She then said ā€œit didn’t hurt himā€. I was sick to my stomach. We left there & all I could think about was what probably had gone on while he was there for 2 weeks & that I would not be following through with that kind of cruel training. Fast forward to the past couple weeks, we picked our dog up from another training facility. We had such an amazing experience at this other facility, the trainers and employees were so kind. The training was completely positive and not forceful whatsoever. My dog actually enjoyed being there and you could see it in his demeanor. My dog is now no longe reactive to other dogs and we are so impressed with the training and kindness he received being at this other facility. Do not drop your dog off at Dan gentile dog training. Dan Gentile dog training is a disgrace and should honestly be shut down for the way they ā€œtrain dogsā€. I will never forgive myself for trusting these people with my dog.

Just picked up my pup from Dan Gentile and his crew and couldn't be happier! Dan is very knowledgeable and personable. Dan's staff are very friendly as well. Dan and his staff were also very professional. I feel my dog has learned a lot over the time he spent here. My pup had such a good time here I almost felt he didn't want to leave. I would highly recommend Dan Gentile to anyone that is looking for some good training by someone that cares. I'm very thankful Dan was recommended to me. Clean facility great people.

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE! They are completely unprofessional. I sat down with a trainer a month ago and set up a date for board & train. Said nothing else but drop him off and make sure he has his shots. For the last week i was distraught knowing i had to bring my dog today and then i get there and another trainer tells me he needed these shots two weeks in advance. I explained that no one told me and they continues to walk back and forth to the office to talk to the owner before confronting me. So the owner didn’t even have the respect to come apologize for the mistake or anything. What they said to me was .. ā€œwell there’s a place down the streetā€ I’m sorry but bringing a dog here is a mistake. Dogs are like our children and obviously these people are cold and non caring. Couldn’t even bother to step out of the office to give me the time of day. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE.
